An opportunity for farmers, growers and others to find out more about the benefits of innovative and regenerative farming practices and the impacts they have on soil and water health, the environment and the farm business.

Topics on the day

Subjects covered will include:

  • Improved farm practices and management for healthier soils and freshwater

  • Alternative & innovative wintering options with cost comparisons

  • Soil health and how it impacts on-farm resilience to climate change and extreme weather events

  • Low nitrogen all grass systems and multi-species pastures

  • Techniques to help meet criteria for reducing GHG emissions

The day will involve a morning workshop held at Glentunnel Community Centre followed by a field trip to Scarlett dairy farm who are using regenerative farming practices.

  • Dr Charles ‘Merf’ Merfield - Future Farming Trust, BHU, Lincoln University - discussing soil & plant health

  • Deane & Melissa - Dairy farmers - talking about changes they have made on farm, new wintering systems and the benefits they have seen.

  • Canaan Ahu - Soil Matters - talking about nutrients and soil fertility and cost comparisons.
